10 Tips to Take Care of Yourself During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is an exciting experience for the first time mothers after the pregnancy test comes positive. For many expecting mothers, this causes anxiety and stress.  The pregnancy period also has its emotional ups and downs . Here are 10 tips for a stress-free nine-month pregnancy:

  1. Plan Your Pregnancy:

Plan your pregnancy. Select a good healthcare provider to decide things such as the hospital to give birth at, maternity and baby gear shopping, nursery decorating and organizing everything after the baby arrives in the world. All this planning will help to reduce hassles later on.

  1. Gain Some Knowledge:

First time mothers do not know what to expect. The best thing for them is to gain some knowledge about how the body shapes up during pregnancy. Read some good books, take childbirth classes or simply download an educational video. Do speak with your doctor regularly. The more you gain knowledge about the bodily changes, the better you will be in control of it.

  1. Communicate with your partner:

You can talk to your partner on a regular basis. Pregnancy in many situations end up straining relationships since both the parents to be are coming to terms with changes in life. Do not keep your problems, feelings and concerns to yourself. Show strong support towards your partner as it is an important part of pregnancy.

  1. Pamper Yourself

Take out time for yourself to clear your mind. It is an excellent way to reduce stress. For example, you can call up girls to enjoy a spa day. You can schedule a massage, a facial or a manicure or pedicure. You can go for a walk, read a book and enjoy picnic in your neighborhood park.

  1. Exercise

Exercise may be the last thing on your mind when your body is aching, but it gives a physical and mental boost as a great source of relaxation in pregnancy. You can go swimming and yoga to relax yourself during pregnancy.

Going out for a little walk to enjoy fresh air will enhance your mood. Sunshine also improves an individual’s mood so take your chances to enjoy the sun rays when you can.

Take out time to connect with unborn baby. You can transfer positive feelings of love by singing, talking and gently massaging and rubbing your baby bump. Enjoy the special time in life to embrace a wonderful pregnancy experience.

  1. Proper Nutrition:

Healthy diet is important for your well being and your baby’s development. Visit your doctor regularly and maintain a healthy diet through intake of iron, vitamins, protein and minerals.

  1. Take Rest:

Fathers of the expecting child also need to step in by taking care of the bills, laundry and dishes to ensure mothers get the extended sleep. Afterall, a well rested mother is a happy mother and this contributes towards a happy household.

  1. Meditation:

Meditation is another great way to restore calmness when practised for at least half an hour. The more you do it during a week, the better it is. It may get challenging if you have other children to take care for, however, you can squeeze in a quick half an hour session when the children are asleep at night.  Focus on your breathing for slow breathing to release tension and worries through exhalation.
